Step Eight - Several months
Write the Document
Writing the document can take several months to complete. Each entry should state what the best practice is, what values it instills, why it is done, and how it is done. The latter should be very specific so that future leaders of the school would be able to follow it.
Several people, checking for accuracy and making additions or suggestions as needed, should read it.
Once the document is complete, a comprehensive index should be added to help facilitate its use. Decide if the final document will be bound, placed in binders, etc. Several copies should be made and kept in various locations, including a copy on the computer.
One important suggestion for maintaining the best practices and values of your school in future years would be to have all incoming staff and board members read/study the document. It will help them understand the founding principles so there is never a question as to what should be done and why.
Best of luck to you and your school!
